Monza beat Sassuolo 1-0 away in the 23rd round of the championship, continuing their recent excellent form. A victory befitting a top team, achieved with personality, determination and great spirit.
The biancorossi got off to a strong start: organized, compact and proactive, looking to gain more ground with good ball circulation.
At 6', Attinasi immediately sent a clear signal to the opponents: the winger, from the left flank, delivered a dangerous cross that reached Reita’s feet. He managed to control and shoot towards goal, but couldn’t find the corner.
The home side pushed forward and at 15' Daldum tried a header to trouble Vailati, but the ball went over the bar.
After a first half-hour of balanced play, Monza threatened again at 33' with Fogliaro, who controlled the ball in the box and attempted a bicycle kick. A technically brilliant effort, but the shot went wide.
One minute later, the match broke open thanks to a superb individual effort from Buonaiuto, who ran solo, left the Sassuolo defense in his wake with an applause-worthy dribble and beat the goalkeeper.
The midfielder from Brianza scored his first goal of the season, a true masterpiece!
Sassuolo reacted immediately, but the visitors’ defense held firm and looked to launch attacks on the break.
At 40', Reita received a pass from Buonaiuto, struck a left-footed shot from long range, testing Nyarko with a powerful attempt that went over the crossbar.
Daldum tried to rally his teammates and at 42' forced Vailati into a save, with the keeper well-positioned to block and push the ball for a corner. The first half ended 0-1.
In the second half, Sassuolo pushed higher and increased the pressure. At 13', a counterattack saw Negri waste a golden opportunity. At 18', Gjyla, just a few steps from goal, nearly scored the equalizer and was left frustrated.
Monza brought on fresh legs to resist the home side’s advances: first Castelli at 16', then Ballabio and Treffiletti at 26'..
The neroverdi continued to seek an equalizer and at 34' Kulla controlled the ball and fired at goal, but Vailati stopped it with a strong save. Colonnese and his defensive colleagues stood firm, closing every gap with great focus.
At 43', Amendola’s long-range attempt again tested Vailati, who once more responded excellently, sending the ball for a corner. Near the end, Sassuolo did score, but the goal was disallowed for offside. At the final whistle, the match ended 0-1.
Next round, on Saturday, February 7th at 11:00 AM, AC Monza will host U.S. Lecce.
