The first matchday of the Under 20 championship opens with the clash between Roma and Monza: the biancorossi initially fall behind, then get back into the game and come close to an equaliser late on, but are unable to complete the comeback. The match ends 3-2.
The team coached by Luciano Vulcano starts with great intensity: after just two minutes, the strong pressure causes trouble for the giallorossi defence and the biancorossi win a corner. From the resulting corner, Villa rises highest and comes within inches of finding the target.
At 9’, the deadlock is broken: Paul comes forward from the back, is in the right place in front of goal and scores the first goal of the season.
The visitors react and bravely get back to building their attacks, looking for solutions: there is still plenty of time to bring the score level.
Roma, however, push forward and at 19’ score their second goal. A few minutes later, Maccaroni finds the net for the third time in the match, but the referee stops play for offside.
At 30’, Nardin confidently tries his luck from distance: his right-footed effort is powerful, but flies over the crossbar. The 3-0 arrives at 34’ through Di Nunzio.
The Monza remain in the game, trying to get back into the match, and at 44’ they reduce the deficit through Scifo, who is quick to turn the ball into the net after Kilvinger saves Fogliaro’s left-footed effort. The score changes and reignites the biancorossi’s hopes.
In the second half, Vulcano brings on fresh legs from the bench: Treffiletti and Mariani replace Perego and Romanini.
At 6’, the first Monza chance of the second half arrives through Martone, who receives the ball from Treffiletti and, with a curling left-footed effort towards the far post, comes agonisingly close to scoring a spectacular goal.
Monza continue to create danger in the attacking third and at 10’ come close again. Following an excellent build-up, Martone spots Ballabio’s run and plays him through, with the latter aiming for goal with his left foot and finding the goalkeeper’s gloves. The ball goes out for a corner, but Fogliaro and his teammates are growing in confidence minute by minute.
At 13’, the giallorossi come forward again, but Di Nunzio misses an important chance.
At 26’, Arena tries to trouble Pirrò, who remains alert and gathers the shot.
The match comes to life at 30’: Scaramelli, who had come on from the bench, beats his opponent, enters the box and, with a precise diagonal finish, gets Monza back into the game.
In the closing stages, Monza try everything they can to find an equaliser: Zanni comes extremely close with a double chance and is left distraught. At the final whistle, the match ends 3-2.
In the next matchday, scheduled for Monday 31st August 2026 at 4:45 PM, AC Monza will host Genoa CFC.
