AC Monza’s first league victory is one of quality, determination and sacrifice: Zanni and Fogliaro seal a 2-1 away win against Hellas Verona.
At kick-off, Monza started at full speed and immediately pushed forward. The acceleration of Scaramelli and his teammates led to the first corner of the match: the ball travelled across the entire penalty area and reached Fardin, who dribbled past his opponent from the edge of the box, was brought down and won an important free kick. Scaramelli stepped up to take it, striking the ball with precision and coming close to producing a masterpiece.
At 7', the home side responded to the opposition’s pressure and advanced down the left through Akale, who did well to find Bisoffi inside the box. The striker reached the ball ahead of everyone else and opened the scoring.
The biancorossi reacted and at 15' they threatened again through Fardin, who used the outside of his boot to play a perfectly weighted through ball into space for Attinasi. The winger quickly reached the byline and delivered the ball into the box for Fogliaro, whose header was deflected behind for a corner. The gialloblu defence survived.
At 17', the score was level again. Martone delivered a perfect cross into the box for Zanni, who rose highest and, with a textbook leap, headed past Borghi.
The match came to life, with the action swinging constantly from one end to the other. Both teams played openly and attacked with intent and at 30' Akale spotted Casagrande and picked him out. Casagrande aimed precisely for the corner, but his effort struck the post.
At 40', Fardin once again caused problems for the Hellas defence and earned a valuable free kick just outside the box. Attinasi took responsibility for the set piece and, with his left foot, curled the ball over the wall and into the gloves of Borghi. A thrilling first half ended 1-1.
After the break, Monza maintained control of the game and confidently pushed forward. At 12', the biancorossi completed their comeback: Fogliaro finished off an excellent pass from Varesis with a clinical diagonal strike into the net, celebrating with all his teammates.
Jatta, who had come off the bench, tried his luck with his left foot at 15' and forced Ballabio into action. The goalkeeper remained alert and produced a superb save to prevent the worst.
The tempo remained high. The biancorossi defended their lead with determination, while the home side launched a series of late attacks in search of an equaliser.
At 36', Ballabio turned Peci’s effort behind for a corner and once again took centre stage.
In the closing stages, Attinasi showed strength and determination to beat several opponents and set up Abou Elezz with the chance to seal the match. The defence stood firm and blocked the striker’s right-footed effort.
At the final whistle, Monza secured a 1-2 victory.
In the next round, scheduled for Saturday, September 12th, 2026 at 11:00 AM, AC Monza will face U.S. Lecce at home.
