AC Monza fell to a 1-0 defeat against Atalanta in the match valid for the 37th round of the league season, played at the Centro Sportivo Bortolotti.
The biancorossi took to the pitch with personality and organisation, immediately showing attacking intent while defending with great attention.
The hosts tried to trouble the Brianzoli backline through Artesani and Camara, but without managing to create any real danger.
At 19’, Monza built from the back with Drobnic and, through quick transitions, worked their way to a shot: Attinasi burst down the left flank and picked out Ballabio’s run into the box. With his back to goal, Ballabio laid the ball off to Mout, whose left-footed effort from a favourable position flashed just wide of the left post. The visitors created the first real chance of the match.
Atalanta responded and pushed forward with Steffanoni, but the defensive line led by Colonnese gave away no openings.
Artesani then decided to go for goal himself and, at 37’, tested Strajnar from distance. The midfielder’s left-footed strike was off target and flew over the bar. The first half ended 0-0.
In the second half, the nerazzurri found the breakthrough thanks to two substitutes: Percassi whipped in a perfect cross from the right for Cakolli, who arrived first to the ball and fired home the opener.
The biancorossi reaction was immediate, but La Dea’s defence stayed compact and closed down the spaces well.
At 26’, Attinasi unleashed a left-footed strike from distance, forcing Anelli into an excellent save to deny the equaliser and push the ball behind for a corner.
Atalanta continued to attack and, at 34’, Mouisse tried his luck from distance with a right-footed effort, but the shot sailed over the crossbar. Just two minutes later, at the other end, De Bonis tested Anelli, who watched the ball drift wide.
At 41’, Baldo wasted a huge counter-attacking chance to put the result beyond doubt, while at 43’ Castelli tried one final effort at the other end. The winger’s right-footed shot went wide. At the final whistle, the match ended 1-0.
In the next round, AC Monza will host Parma Calcio 1913.
