With a goal from Kvernadze at 92', Frosinone wins 1-0 at the U-Power Stadium and advances to the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa round of 16, fooling Monza who had deserved chances to take the lead.
The heat is felt early on for both teams. After a very tactical phase, the visitors try to threaten with a free kick from Marchizza: a strong shot, but off target. Monza responds at 23' with Colombo’s shot, which whistles just wide. Captain Pessina also tries at 40', but Sherri blocks his left-footed attempt. The biancorossi press and just before halftime Caprari shoots in a scramble, hitting the defender and rebounding away. At the start of the second half Galazzi comes on for the brianzoli for mister Bianco’s first substitution. Frosinone threaten again at 55', when Marchizza plays a dangerous cross in, but no teammate reaches it. At 56’ Monza make two changes with Obiang and Azzi and at 64’ Ganvoula also comes on. At 73’ Dany Mota has a nice spell, turns and shoots, narrowly missing a great goal with his right. Monza believe and again come close to the lead at 77'. Obiang’s run serves Azzi perfectly, whose shot barely goes wide.
Monza deserved a goal and asks for one at 79'. It all starts with an irresistible slalom by Galazzi who leaves space on the right and puts in a cross: the ciociarian defense risks an own goal with Sherri saving on the line. The biancorossi want the goal awarded, but it remains 0-0. Monza doesn’t give up and attacks furiously. Galazzi, unleashed, at 85' starts from the right and fires a powerful left-footed shot that hits the post. Bianco also brings on Ravanelli. It’s total biancorosso siege, with Ganvoula testing Palmisani, who had come on for the injured Sherri. But surprise comes from Frosinone at 92'. Ciociari counter-attack with Francesco Gelli feeding Kvernadze, who finishes to make it 0-1. A real sting for Monza which protests a penalty for a Dany Mota contact, but Perenzoni allows play to continue. In the nine minutes of stoppage time comes the red card for Ganvoula after VAR intervention for a reaction foul. The last chance at 104' falls to Lucchesi, who makes a run into the opponents’ area and just misses the 1-1. Frosinone win 1-0 and reach the Coppa Italia round of 16.
Biancorossi will be back in action on Saturday, August 23rd at 21:00 against Mantova, again at the U-Power Stadium, for the first matchday of Serie B.
