On matchday three of the league season, Monza scored their first-ever Serie A goal through the brilliant Robinson and picked up their first point with a good 1-1 draw away at Parma.
Juric, already without several injured players, also lost Cutrone, who was left in the stands. The tempo was high from the outset despite the intense heat. The first real chance fell to the biancorossi at 11'. Birindelli delivered a perfectly weighted cross and Dany Mota rose to head the ball just over the bar. The Portuguese forward tried again at 14', this time with a fine individual run that ended with a diagonal shot wide of the post. Parma threatened from a corner at 17', when Thiam first denied Troilo before Lucchesi produced a superb intervention to beat Romero and Fabbian to the ball. Monza continued to control the game, however, and looked dangerous every time they attacked. At 21', Carboni came close to getting on the end of a winning header at the far post. A minute later, Dany Mota burst down the left at pace, beating the Parma defence and finding himself one-on-one with Corvi, who produced a miracle save to keep his side in the game. Juric's team were playing well and making the most of their freshness out wide. At 36', Forson produced a great first touch, advanced and tried a curling left-footed effort, but the ball went wide. Robinson found the target instead at 38', cutting inside from the left, taking aim and unleashing a fantastic right-footed strike into the far corner. It was the 19-year-old English talent's first beautiful Serie A goal and his first in the biancorossi shirt, putting Monza ahead.
Parma were unable to produce a convincing response even at the start of the second half. Juric made his first substitution at 54', bringing on Colpani. The substitute almost made an immediate impact at 58', when, after breaking away on the counter-attack, he came close to scoring with a left-footed shot which, after taking a deflection, almost wrong-footed Corvi. The goalkeeper did brilliantly to keep the ball out and save his side. His intervention proved crucial because two minutes later Parma equalised. Thiam first produced an excellent save from Lontani, but the move continued and the young 2008-born player scored his first Serie A goal at 60', placing the ball into the corner. Juric brought on Colombo, who made his season debut. The game became increasingly thrilling. At 62', Corvi produced another miracle save to deny Kouadio's close-range header, following Colpani's inviting free-kick. Monza came within inches of making it 1-2. Parma were nevertheless much more attacking than in the first half and at 66' they tested Thiam with a Toure turn and shot. Monza were not content with a draw and continued to attack. At 76', Mangas delivered a perfectly weighted cross which Folorunsho headed, although without troubling Corvi. At 80', Birindelli sprinted down the right and sent a fine cross into the box, but none of his teammates managed to get a touch. Juric made a triple substitution at 81', bringing on Bakoune, Mout and Maye. Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages. At 89', Mangas sent a dangerous cross in from the left, but the Parma defence managed to clear the danger. Then, during the five minutes of stoppage time, Folorunsho, now playing as the centre-forward, came close with a powerful right-footed effort that could have been worth all three points. The match ended 1-1 at the Tardini.
Next weekend, the biancorossi will travel to Lecce, with kick-off scheduled for Sunday, September 13th, at 3:00 PM.
