Growing up in the Portuense area, he then passed to the SPAL youth team and launched by Paolo Mazza, he was sold to Monza in Serie B, in 1977. He later moved to Milan together with his teammate Tosetto and with the Rossoneri he won the star's title in 1979, then following the fortunes of the Milan players even after the 1980 relegation linked to the football-betting scandal. In the meantime he had made his debut for the national team on February 16, 1980 against Romania, playing ten minutes. After another remnant of the match, he was called up for the 1980 European Championships, although he did not collect any further appearances in blue. After AC Milan's second demotion, in 1982, it passed to Cesena who was immediately demoted. After a season in Rome, (1984) during which he made 24 appearances, he joined Napoli in 1985, he played only five games in what was his last season in the top flight; a serious injury (suffered during Inter-Napoli, due to a foul by Andrea Mandorlini), in fact, forced Buriani to abandon high-level football early and returning to Ferrara to play in Serie C with SPAL. He later became manager before Milan and then of smaller teams, discovering many talents who play in Serie A, including Rino Gattuso.
